Discard your gift boxes properly.

Believe it or not, burglars drive around neighborhoods looking for boxes like this one at your curbside. They will then check the area, looking for alarm yard signs, cameras, and evidence of general property guardianship before acting. This calculation is called risk-reward.

This time of year, boxes such as the one above are most prevalent, but it’s a problem year-round.  Make sure you take the time to dismantle the empty containers for the recycling bin. Some areas offer secure containers for these items for people who cannot break down the boxes or have recycling issues.
