Not every hospital security expert has run security for a major health system and also stood in the courtroom. Mark Lang has done both — and the difference shows.

When a patient, visitor, or staff member is assaulted in an emergency department, behavioral health unit, parking garage, or patient room, the legal question is rarely simple. Was the violence foreseeable and preventable? Did the hospital meet the accepted standard of care for security staffing, access control, workplace violence prevention, and response to aggressive or at-risk patients? Mark J. Lang is a recognized consultant in hospital and healthcare negligent security, with additional expertise in premises liability and law enforcement standards. As the founding Executive Senior Director of Security Operations at Orlando Health — one of Florida's largest health systems — he led security across a large, multi-hospital environment. Combined with his career as a retired Special Investigations Division Captain with the Orange County Sheriff's Office, he brings real-world command authority to every case he handles.

His opinions are grounded in decades of operational experience, the highest credentials in the security profession, and a commitment to objective, fact-based analysis that holds up under rigorous cross-examination. He evaluates hospital security programs against IAHSS guidelines, Joint Commission workplace violence standards, CMS and OSHA expectations, and the facility's own policies, risk assessments, and incident history.

 

Mark Lang has consulted nationally on hospital security, negligent security, premises liability, and law enforcement standards — with more than four decades of combined experience across law enforcement, healthcare security administration, and private investigations.

Before establishing Investigations HQ, LLC, Mr. Lang retired from the Orange County Sheriff's Office as a decorated Special Investigations Division Captain and served as the first Executive Senior Director of Security Operations for Orlando Health. He holds a Master of Criminal Justice from Boston University and has been published in the Journal of Healthcare Protection Management.
